IEEE Photonics Society Malaysia Chapter
On October 17, 2023, the IEEE Photonics Society Malaysia Chapter organized the Topical Meeting on Photonics (TMP) 2023 program in collaboration with the Fiber Optics Research Center, Multimedia University (MMU). The event was held at the Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Computing and Informatics, MMU, Cyberjaya, Selangor, Malaysia. The program aimed to comprehensively address various selected topics in photonics science, technology, and recent applications. Esteemed engineers, scientists, and researchers gathered at the event to exchange valuable insights, disseminate current knowledge, and showcase groundbreaking advancements within the field of photonics.
Three keynote speakers and six invited speakers from industry and academia delivered talks on their current research findings, ranging from fundamental physics research to industrial application achievement. The keynote speakers are Prof. Ir. Hairul Azhar Abdul Rashid from Multimedia University, Mr. Muhammad Faiz Ibrahim from TNB Research Sdn Bhd, and Ts. Muhammad Hafiz Laili from MIMOS Berhad. The invited speakers are Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Norshamsuri bin Ali from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raja Kamarulzaman bin Raja Ibrahim from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Nurul Asyikin Bte Mohamed Radzi from Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Dr. Nadiah Husseini Zainol Abidin from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Prof. Dr. Rozalina Zakaria from Universiti Malaya (UM), and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafiz Bin Abu Bakar (UPM). It is our great honor for TMP 2023 to offer a platform for researchers from different universities to exchange ideas and discuss potential collaboration.
The program began at 8:30 a.m. with registration and breakfast. At 9:00 a.m., the Program Chair, and the Vice Chair of the IEEE Photonics Society Malaysia Chapter, Dr. Siti Azlida Ibrahim, officiated the event, followed by the keynote speakers’ talk. After the event break for lunch and a networking session, the meeting resumed with presentation slots by invited speakers. During the networking session and tea break at 3:30 p.m., participants got to interact and exchange ideas and contacts before the event ended at 5:30 p.m. Thirty-three participants, ten committee members, and nine speakers attended the event. From the feedback survey forms, the participants agreed that the knowledge and experience shared by the speakers enhanced their learning, and the topics exposed them to new knowledge and practices. It is hoped that the program is sufficiently impactful to increase collaboration among researchers while bridging the gap between university researchers and industry players.
