Technical Councils

IEEE Technical Councils bring together groups of Societies to focus on a common area of technology. Councils provide you with opportunities to publish and collaborate on research, stay current on news and events, network with your colleagues, develop standards, and participate in educational activities.

IEEE members and affiliates of IEEE Societies may participate in any Technical Council by joining for free. The Councils the IEEE Photonics Society supports are:

  • IEEE Nanotechnology Council
  • IEEE Sensors Council
  • IEEE Systems Council

There are no membership requirements to join; participation in this Technical Council is free through your IEEE Photonics Society membership.

IEEE Nanotechnology Council

The IEEE Nanotechnology Council focuses on the advancement and coordination of work in the field of Nanotechnology, and is made up of 22 member societies. The Council is a multi-disciplinary group supporting the theory, design, and development of nanotechnology and its scientific, engineering, and industrial applications.

The Council sponsors well-recognized, international conferences and publications, including:

IEEE Sensors Council

The IEEE Sensors Council focuses on the theory, design, fabrication, manufacturing and application of devices for sensing and transducing physical, chemical, and biological phenomena. This Council is made up of 26 member societies. With an emphasis on the electronics, physics, and reliability aspects of sensors and integrated sensor-actuators.

The Council sponsors well-recognized, international conferences and publications, including:

IEEE Systems Council

The IEEE Systems Council brings together IEEE activities across multiple disciplines, comprising of 23 IEEE member societies focused on aspects of systems engineering, covering areas such as systems thinking, modeling, simulation, integration, and resilience. The Council also addresses robust design, safety, human factors, security, usability, environmental considerations, product lifecycle management, and systems architecture.
