Ever wonder how “smart homes” work? You walk into your house and the lights automatically turn on. A voice-controlled assistant asks how your day has been, and the heater automatically turns on to keep the room temperature at the perfect level. IOT, or Internet of Things devices, such as home assistants and smart devices, have exploded in popularity over the past few years. This workshop aims to introduce how you can make your own IOT project with your home internet, an ESP8266, and a project kit.
Participants will learn how to create both hardware and software components required to remotely poll sensor data and control motors, LEDs, and other output devices. Participants will also learn basic control theory concepts in order to systematically regulate inputs and outputs using IOT-powered devices, as well as the networking protocols used in this application of hardware engineering.
Available for all students. Registration $15.
