Travel Funds

The IEEE Photonics Society is providing travel grant opportunities to encourage early career participation at the IEEE Summer Topicals Meeting Series (SUM 2024) taking place in Bridgetown, Barbados from July 15-17, 2024.

Students pursuing degrees in photonics and optics fields of interest and in early career, up to 15 years post their first degree, are encouraged to apply! Grantees chosen will receive $2,500 USD to help cover travel, lodging expenses, and registration.

Note: Submitting a paper towards the SUM 2024 topics is not required, but encouraged. There also isn’t a limit to how many student chapter volunteers can apply from one chapter. However, each application requires individual responses. Recipients from developing nations or in additional financial need may receive a complimentary registration upon review.

An applicant should be:

  • A current student or early career, i.e. graduate, post-doc, young professional, etc., up to 15 years post their first degree.
  • An IEEE Photonics Society Member.
  • Sponsored by an advisor, professor, mentor or direct supervisor.
  • Volunteer experience or service in the photonics community is encouraged.

Application Deadline: Friday, April 5, 2024

The IEEE Photonics Society is committed to providing equal opportunity to all scientists and engineers, inclusive of ethnicity, race, nationality, disability, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, religion, gender, age, and/or personal identity. All qualified individuals are encouraged to apply.

Note: This year’s Summer Topicals is co-located with the Photonics in Switching and Computing Conference (PSC). PSC showcases groundbreaking research in optical networking, high-performance computing, and emerging technologies such as optical and quantum computing.
