Prof. Yuan Gong received his PhD in Optical Engineering in 2008 from Institute of Optics and Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He joined Key Laboratory of Optical Fiber sensing and Communications, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) in 2008, and has been a full professor since 2017. From 2015 to 2016, he was a visiting scholar in Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA.

Prof. Gong’s research interests include optical fiber sensors, fiber microstructures, distributed sensor fibers and cables, instrumentation of fiber sensor systems, especially those for biological or chemical detection and healthcare applications. He has published more than 150 papers and is an inventor of 30 patents. He served as TPC Co-Chair for the 10th Asia-Pacific Optical Sensors Conference, and also as a Guest Editor for Advanced Devices & Instrumentation, Biosensors, Photonic Sensors, and Optics & Laser Technology.
