Collaboration & Engagement Committee

In alignment with IEEE Policy 9.8, IEEE’s Collaboration and Engagement Statement, this IEEE Photonics Society Committee, sharing the same namesake, will be “committed to advancing collaboration and engagement in the technical profession, and to promoting a culture in its activities and programs that welcomes, engages, and rewards all who contribute to the field.” It will uphold the IEEE’s mission “fosters technological innovation and excellence to benefit humanity. To accomplish this mission, the Committee requires the talents and perspectives of people with different personal, cultural, and disciplinary backgrounds.”

The Collaboration & Engagement Committee will foster a collaborative culture within the Society to both strengthen the global photonics community and ensure that its members are well represented across all aspects of the Society. Serving in an advisory capacity, the Committee is intended to provide recommendations to support engagement and drive collaboration across the Society, working in partnership with the Society’s Councils to carry out activities

Strategic Direction & Objectives

  • Advise the Board of Governors, Membership Council, and other organizational units in the Society on strategies, programs, and initiatives that advance collaboration, engagement and accountability.
  • Strengthen global membership engagement and volunteer leadership pathways by promoting best practices that amplify member voices, ensuring that all regions and groups have effective platforms to contribute their expertise and knowledge.
  • Identify global target areas, sections or regions where emerging photonics trends present opportunities for collaboration and growth.
  • Build partnerships with national sister societies, fostering mutual growth, exchange, and sustainable collaborations that expand the global impact of photonics.
  • Enhance transparency by communicating the Society’s mission and strategic priorities effectively through all channels, including internal and external grassroots networks.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and propose initiatives to Councils aligned with the Committee’s nesting goals and objectives.
