Jill I. Gostin Elected as 2026 IEEE President-Elect

IEEE is pleased to announce that Jill I. Gostin has been elected as the 2026 IEEE President-Elect. Pending the acceptance of the IEEE Tellers’ Committee report by the IEEE Board of Directors on 24–25 November, Gostin will begin her term as IEEE President-Elect on 1 January 2026. She will then succeed 2026 IEEE President Mary Ellen Randall. The other candidate for the position was David Alan Koehler.

Gostin brings a wealth of technical expertise and leadership experience to this global role. In April 2025, she retired as a Principal Research Scientist in the Georgia Tech Research Institute’s (GTRI) Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory, where she worked in the Software Engineering and Architecture Division. Over the course of her distinguished career at GTRI—which began in 1985—she served as Project Director and Principal Investigator for numerous projects and as Deputy Director of the Information and Communications Laboratory. Her areas of specialization include software test and evaluation, design of experiments, stationary target detection, fractal geometry applications, software coding standards, and program management.

Gostin’s commitment to IEEE spans decades and reflects deep engagement across local, regional, and global levels. A highly active volunteer, she has held multiple leadership positions, including IEEE Vice President, Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) and Chair of the MGA Board in 2023. She previously served as IEEE Region 3 Director (covering the southeastern United States and Jamaica) during 2020–2021, which included a seat on the IEEE Board of Directors. Additionally, she has contributed her expertise on the Boards of Governors of the IEEE Computer Society and the IEEE Aerospace and Electronics Systems Society, and as Vice President of Finance for the IEEE Sensors Council.

Currently, Gostin continues to serve IEEE in several capacities: she is the IEEE MOVE USA Communications Chair, a member of the IEEE Governance Committee, Chair of the IEEE Ad Hoc Committee on Conduct Review, a member of the IEEE Ad Hoc on OneIEEE Education Strategy, and Acting Past Chair of IEEE Region 3.

Reflecting on her service, Gostin often describes IEEE as her “professional home.” Her dedication to advancing IEEE’s mission through collaboration, innovation, and member engagement will continue to shape the organization as she prepares to lead it into 2027.
