The IEEE Photonics Society Student Chapter of Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur organized an insightful two-day tour to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore and the Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT) in Indore. Held on the 21st and 22nd of May 2024, this tour was made possible through a special program grant from the IEEE Photonics Society.
The journey commenced on the evening of May 20th, 2024, with IEEE Photonics Society members, including co-faculty advisor Dr. Ravi K. Maddila, departing from the MNIT Jaipur campus. Upon arriving at IIT Indore, the group explored various cutting-edge laboratories such as the Advanced Memory Technology Laboratory, Optoelectronic Nanodevice Research Laboratory, Bio-medical Signal Processing Laboratory, Wireless Communication (WiCom) Research Laboratory, Molecular and Nano-Electronics Research Group, and the Signal and Software Group (SaSg). The visit also included an engaging session with Prof. Mukesh Kumar and his research scholars, offering students a comprehensive learning experience.
On May 22nd, the students visited RRCAT Indore, known for its work with the Indus Operation Division (IOD), which manages the Indus synchrotron radiation facilities. The tour provided an in-depth look at the Materials Science and Advanced Technology Laboratories, highlighting the application of advanced research in real-world scenarios.
Feedback from the students was overwhelmingly positive. Manish Jangid appreciated the development of flexibility and adaptability, Pankaj Binda valued the cultural and experiential learning, and Vikram Maurya noted the importance of experiential learning. Kamal Kishore Choure found the tour academically relevant, while Surendra Kumar Saini emphasized the tour’s significance to their research in the bio-medical signal processing laboratory.
The educational tour was a success, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. It underscored the IEEE Photonics Society Student Chapter MNIT Jaipur’s commitment to providing its members with invaluable academic and professional growth opportunities.
