Advancing Optical Sensing: IEEE Sensors Council Webinar Series and Tutorials

The IEEE Sensors Council, a technical council within IEEE that brings together multiple Societies, including support from the IEEE Photonics Society, offers a comprehensive series of tutorials and webinars designed to advance knowledge in optical science, technology, and other multidisciplinary fields. Within the Council, the Optical Sensors Cluster leads initiatives that strengthen collaboration, foster innovation, and expand the global impact of optical sensing research.


The IEEE Sensors Council has launched a monthly webinar series that unites experts from diverse disciplines to share insights on cutting-edge optical sensor technologies. In addition, the Council organizes symposiums, providing valuable opportunities for in-depth discussions and international collaboration.

The tutorials are available on the IEEE Sensors Council YouTube Channel. These presentations, recorded with the consent of the speakers, were originally delivered during IEEE Sensors Conferences as peer-reviewed work. Members and the broader community are encouraged to explore this growing library of high-quality content, designed for students, researchers, and professionals alike. The Optical Sensors Cluster contributed to the webinar series by featuring an impressive lineup of talks highlighting recent advances and applications of optical sensing technologies. Upcoming and previously recorded sessions cover a wide range of topics, including distributed fiber optic sensors and their principles, challenges, and applications (Cicero Martelli, Brazil); ultrasensitive laser absorption spectroscopy for trace gas detection (Fred Mokua, Kenya); portable optical fiber sensors integrated with smartphones for healthcare monitoring (Rui Min, China); and compact optical spectroscopy for food analytics (Anna G. Mignani, Italy).
