Dr. Thierry Zami is a WDM system engineer in Alcatel Submarine Network based in France. He has been working for 29 years in the field of optical fiber networking for telecommunication, successively in Alcatel Alsthom Recherche, Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia. His area of expertise covers optical switching technology, optical routing node architectures in WDM fiber transport networks, and physical impairment-aware planning of WDM networks.
He graduated as optical engineer from the Institut d’Optique Graduate School, France and he received a Ph.D. degree in electronics and communications from Telecom Paris Tech in 2002.
He is presently involved in modelling, specification, and experimental assessment of advanced optical features for the Nokia WDM product line. Dr Thierry Zami has filed 65 patents and has co-authored 130 peer-reviewed papers in journals and conferences. He is a distinguished member of technical staff of Nokia Bell Labs since 2012. He is frequent reviewer for international journals dealing with optical networking and has received the ‘OSA Outstanding Reviewer Recognition’ in 2020.
For JLT, he is handling submissions on the following topics:
• Experimental assessment of physical impairments induced by optical nodes in WDM networks
• Wavelength-routing and fiber-routing technologies
• Performance of optical node architecture
• Design and planning of WDM fiber mesh networks
