Scott Bickham is a Development Fellow in the Optical Communications division of Corning. Since joining Corning in 1999, Scott has led the development of low-attenuation fibers, bend-insensitive single-mode and multimode fibers and specialty fibers. He has a B.S. in physics from Purdue University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from Cornell University. Scott holds over 110 patents and has over 70 publications relating to optical fibers and optical transmission systems, including three book chapters. In 2014, he received the Development Excellence Award for his sustained contributions to product and process development at Corning. Scott is a senior member of the OSA.

For JLT, he is handling papers in the following areas:

• Optical fibers for communications
• Propagation effects in optical fibers
• Design and modeling of optical fibers
• Characterization techniques for optical fibers
• Mechanical reliability of optical fibers
