Raja Ahmad is currently with Cisco, helping develop a range of silicon photonics-based optical interconnect products supporting 100, 400 and 800 Gb/s systems, leveraging IMDD and coherent technologies. Previously, he was at Molex, developing high capacity optical switches for telecom networks. Prior to Molex, he was at OFS, and was developing optical fiber based products, such as high power fiber lasers, distributed sensors and higher-order mode polarization maintaining fibers. He received B.Sc in electrical engineering from University of Engineering and Technology (UET) in Pakistan. He had worked briefly on engineering image and video processing systems, before joining McGill University, Canada, for MEng and PhD in the field of advanced optical devices.
Dr. Ahmad is a Senior member of IEEE and Optica (formerly, OSA), and has extensive publications and patents within a broad range of topics, including optical fibers and devices, integrated photonics, and quantum optics. He is currently serving as the Secretary of IEEE Photonics Standards Committee. In the past, he had served as program committee member of various technical conferences, including CLEO, OFC and Advanced Photonics Congress.
For JLT, he is handling papers on:
• Optical fibers and amplifiers
• Optical fiber sensors
• Optical switches and transceivers
• Integrated photonic products for datacenter (DC) and telecom systems/networks
