Luca Palmieri is a Full Professor of Photonics and Electromagnetic Fields at the Department of Information Engineering, University of Padova, Italy. He teaches courses on optical fibers and optical fiber transmission systems and sensors. His research focuses primarily on optical fiber sensing and on the modeling and characterization of light propagation in optical fibers, with particular emphasis on polarization and mode-coupling effects. He has contributed to the development of techniques for the distributed characterization of mode coupling and their extension to sensing applications. He has served on the technical program committees of several international conferences, including ECOC, OFC, and OFS. Professor Palmieri has co-authored over 200 scientific publications. He has been Associate Editor of the Journal of Optics and Laser Technology (Elsevier) and Topical Editor of Optics Letters (Optica). He is a Senior Member of IEEE and Optica.

For JLT, he is handling submissions on the following topics:
• Optical fiber sensors
• Modelling
• Design and applications
