Gugliemo Marconi, The Man who Connected the world

September 13, 2024 @ 9:00 am - 2:30 pm

The IEEE Photonics Society Italy Chapter celebrates the legacy of Gugliemo Marconi and commemorate his groundbreaking discoveries that revolutionized the world. From his pioneering exploration of electromagnetic waves to the contemporary realm of light-based satellite communications, Marconi’s innovations have left an indelible mark on human history.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Gugliemo Marconi, Nobel Prize winner for physics in 1909 for the invention of the wireless telegraph. A discovery that not only opened the way to a series of technologies such as radio, wireless and optical communications, but also to the concept of networking itself. After all, Marconi is the man who connected the word.

We will talk of the figure of Marconi, placed in his historical context, and of his legacy, expressed in the development of those wireless telecommunications technologies that find their origins in the radio he created, from the internet to the latest frontiers of free space optical communication.
