Help Shape the Technical Program in Porto

Topic Proposal Deadline: 12 October 2026

What emerging research area should be part of the conversation at Summer Topicals?

The IEEE Photonics Society Summer Topicals Meeting Series (SUM) 2027 is now accepting topic proposals. We invite past authors, committee members, and members of the photonics community to help shape the technical program.

This is your opportunity to bring researchers together around a timely area of photonics, highlight new directions in the field, and help build a program that reflects where the community is headed.

What to Include in your Proposal

Each topic typically features 30–40 invited and contributed talks. Proposals should include:
  • Topic organizers, including names, affiliations, and bios
  • Why the topic is timely and the community it will serve
  • Goals and scope for the topic
  • A potential list of invited speakers
  • Ideas for mentorship, networking, or outreach activities alongside the technical program
Help bring the next important conversation in photonics to SUM 2027.
Submit your proposal by 12 October.
