As part of its 60th anniversary celebration, the IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics (JQE) is pleased to unveil its newly updated scope for the first time since its founding in the 1960s.

Also available now in IEEE Xplore
This update ensures that JQE continues to reflect the evolving research interests of the photonics and quantum optics community.
The updated scope includes:
- An emphasis on photonic-related quantum technologies, such as photonics-based quantum computing and quantum information systems
- A clearer focus on practical applications of light-matter interactions
- Continued coverage of laser physics, nonlinear optics, quantum photonics, and related fields
The updated scope also clarifies what is not included:
- Purely electronic quantum devices (e.g., quantum logic using electronic-only systems, cold ion processors without photonic components)
This change recognizes the evolution of the term quantum electronics since the 1960s and reinforces the journal’s alignment with the IEEE Photonics Society’s focus and mission.
A quote from the IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics Editor-in-Chief, John Dallesasse, says, “The term ‘quantum electronics’ has evolved. This update ensures that JQE remains aligned with the IEEE Photonics Society’s mission and the interests of our authors and readers while spotlighting the critical intersection of quantum science and photonics.”
We invite the community to explore the updated scope and consider submitting their research to JQE during this milestone anniversary year.
