In recognition of a century since the development of quantum mechanics, the United Nations has declared 2025 the International Year of Quantum (IYQ). To commemorate this milestone, CLEO 2025 will host a special symposium highlighting the historical foundations, recent breakthroughs, and future directions of quantum science and technology.
The symposium will feature experts across thematic sessions:
- Landmark Quantum Experiments – Foundational discoveries that shaped the field, with insights from William Phillips, John Preskill, David Wineland, and Harald Weinfurter.
- The Second Quantum Revolution – Advances in quantum information science and emerging technologies, featuring Mike Raymer, Tommaso Calarco, Artur Ekert, and Paul Kwiat.
- Frontiers in Quantum – Cutting-edge research in quantum computing, networking, and sensing, presented by Saikat Guha, Sophia Economou, and Lee McCuller.
- Quantum Industry – The translation of quantum science into real-world applications, with perspectives from Patty Lee, Matthias Troyer, Jungsang Kim, and Zachary Vernon.
Organized by Paulina Kuo (NIST), Sergey Polyakov (NIST), and Irina Novikova (William & Mary), this symposium will provide an in-depth examination of the trajectory of quantum science, the role of major global initiatives such as the U.S. National Quantum Initiative and the EU’s Quantum Flagship, and the transformative potential of quantum technologies.
Don’t miss your opportunity to engage with leading experts, gain critical insights, and be part of this historic moment in quantum science.
